You will be someone who can draw inspiration from a wide range of sources (not just the web) to create a variety of powerful design concepts. With the direction set you'll be able to develop these concepts into stunning interfaces that are easy and engaging to use. You'll need to be as happy working with pen and paper as on the Mac (extra credit for carrying a sketchbook), love typography, grid-based design and have an incredible attention to detail. You should also be able to interpret complex briefs and effectively communicate your design decisions to clients, colleagues and peers alike - be that in a meeting or in the pub over a frosty beverage! Like all good designers, you'll need an innate understanding of the medium. And whilst we're not looking for another web standards guru (we have a few of those already) you will need to have a thorough understanding of XHTML/CSS and be comfortable building complicated CSS layouts.
