I think you answered your own question in the asking, Douglas.

When you SCALE something (be it the movie, the line, etc.) it will
(generally, if you have it set to proportionate) make the piece larger or
smaller in proportion. Hence, scaling.

Translation: If you have a square that is 2 x 2 (whatever measurements) and
you wish to increase it to 4x4, it's going to get larger. If it is the
OUTLINE (stroke) of a square and you scale it, it will also get larger (or
smaller) as it is scaled.

>From Dictionary.com:

4. Relative dimensions, without difference in proportion of parts; size or
degree of the parts or
components in any complex thing, compared with other like things;
especially, the relative proportion of
the linear dimensions of the parts of a drawing, map, model, etc., to the
dimensions of the corresponding
parts of the object that is represented; as, a map on a scale of an inch
to a mile.

So, if you had a map, and you saw a road, drawn to scale, would you expect
it to be equally as thin on the earth versus on the map?

I'm not trying to be a smart-ass here, and I know from the depth of
explanation that it will come-off as such, but I'm trying to give you a
pretty good idea as to what "scaling" does.

Russ
