Hi Bob,

I sure hope your name is Bob........

To draw 3D text in Flash is rather simple in fact. You just have to remember
you're drawing shapes not the whole object as you draw 3D text in Flash.

Instead of breaking the vector into many vectors which is what you do when
you trace your bitmaps. This is why your file is incredibly large. It
creates individual pieces trying to interpret each part of the gradient in
the bitmap. You can check this out for yourself by clicking on each piece of
the whole bitmapped broken into many vectors. Even though with the naked eye
it appears to be the same color, it may be one hex off from the next
vectored piece of the broken bitmapped image.

The solution Bob would be to simplify each frame of your animation taking it
down to simplified forms/shapes instead of breaking it into many vectored
shapes and many more colors. Its' along the same line as draw what you see
instead of what you know. Basic art and design.......

I borrowed my kids milky pens one day, interesting pens these are and
opaque! I liked the black sketchpads too, starting drawing like crazy, in
shapes alone, silhouettes in opposite of drawing on white paper. (The
highlights instead of the shadows.....this took a bit of practice) Went out
that very same day, bought me my own and drew and drew and drew. Brought
back many a lesson on basic design and art theory. Helped me to see things
in basic forms. Took that same theory into Flash and applied it to each
frame of PS. All 27 frames of this animation were drawn individually using
lines and circles traced over the top. I also incorporated the gradients as
in, if it moved slightly to the right, I would carry the gradient from frame
2 to frame 3, moving it slightly giving the impression of movement carried
from frame to frame. I highly recommend using gradients for certain areas of
a piece, it adds a certain spark unobtainable with just flat colors.

hope this helps Bob...........!

cYa,
