Thanks to everyone who helped me in my F5 actionscript learning process..
especially Musak who sent me an example file that clicked the light on in
my head! I discovered I needed to have the dynamic fields in the MC
itself, not just the scene... that was my problem. I wasn't assigning the
onClipEvent (load) { } statement to the same movie as the dynamic text
field. Duh.

thanks again musak for taking the time to make me an example file.
Sometimes you just need to see it on screen.
