What is your target user platform - Mac or PC?

If it's Mac - Macromedia Director is the way to go. If your
looking for something simple to use for Mac, check out
Pitango ClickWorks.

For the PC, Director is also the favored tool, but it's $995 and
there is a modest learning curve. The benefits of using Director
are numerous, you can do anything you want with it and you can
incorporate Flash animations with a plugin.

If you're working on a basic prodject (a few AVI files,
sounds, and photos> and it doesn't require a lot of
sprite animations, you might want to try NeoBook Pro for
Windows. I have had very good luck with it. It's cheap at $199
and you can get up and running within 30 minutes. I have
been using NeoBook for all my Windows CBT and basic
multimedia work.

You can download a save-disabled demo at www.neosoftware.com

Creating an autostart CD for PC's is very easy. You just add a
few lines of code to autorun.inf file. You can find information
about doing this on Microsoft's site.

Let me know how it turns out.

Preferably, the software would be capable of creating autorun files. What we are doing is taking a video and making it into a story which kids can read along with, either with or without narration. It is a linear story line, i.e. no choices to make other than with or without narration, no interaction; it is rather like Disney's "Winnie the Pooh" CD. Any recommendations would be appreciated greatly. Thanks.
