A friend of mine achieved this very effect by using the program poser and
exporting vector sequences. It looked pretty good. To keep the file size
down, I think he used one or two sequences and just repeated them at
different sizes, colors and opacities and then started them on different
frames so that it would look like a bunch of different movie clips.
It looked like a bunch of people in a club.
