Jeff,


On the PC platform, there are several high end solutions to adding surface

materials, environments and advanced lighting to CAD models. You can then

render the files and save them as tifs, jpgs etc, or animate walkthru's and

save as avi's, in qt format, or other formats, some of which require a

plug-in to view in a browser. I don't know anyway to a create any vector

format output, but that's just my lack of knowledge.


I work with a 3D CAD renderer who does this for his clients-we don't have

any animations up on his web site yet, but you can see examples of CAD files

in dwf format, and numerous renderings. We use 3D Studio MAX and VIZ to

create the renderings. You can see some samples at

The site is still under construction-we hope to be a useful resource on this

subject but we are still writing content and building pages.

Hi folks,

a bit of a tangent.

I have a client that wants to do virtual walkthroughs or at least models

of as yet unbuilt homes.


Are there any programs that will take the blueprint information from CAD

programs, {I assume as DXF files? }  and allow you to render mockups and

add surface textures, etc...

and perhaps [ hope against hope] let them remain small files like vectors

for import into Flash or QT for web viewing?
