well, we did a mailing in september99, a
mysterious fake.posting in the context
of ars electronica, linux an microsoft.

we mailed it to about 1000 of our addresses
(all net-art and tech community) and it
was very soon quite widespread, was featured
on at least 20 mags/ezines (incl. top story
on slashdot).
news conferences got called in, and still,
until the end, nobody was still very sure,
or really had an idea who had launched the
fake.

worked really well. cant use ot for any kinda
client though, as it was very close to
"ohh, denial of service attacks - i think we
need more money for the fbi", you know.
