UKNM: Email lists

I am in the early stages of putting a database together of people who use 

our site.  I need to collect their email addresses and sort these by whether 

they are prepared to receive commercial messages or not.


Does anyone have advice of the legalities that they can point me to, or any 

books they suggest I should read?
