This thread was started some weeks back with a humorous note from Goddado,
so they asked to be thrown into the spotlight but I'm surprised at the
negativity they have attracted!

They follow a similar and successful business model to Goto.com. You pay
'per click through', the more you bid per keyword the higher you appear in
search results. If you don't receive a click through you don't pay.

I own a number of properties each of which do not have the luxury of
extravagant budgets, every marketing pound spent must be justified by a
positive ROI. Using Goto.com and a number of other pay per click search
engines brings me regular highly targeted visitors I would not have
otherwise received.

Plus of course with that ROI thing....I know how much a visitor is worth to
me and only bid amounts that are still profitable!

Yes, companies are paying to be listed and as such are likely to be
commercial, reducing the search engines effectiveness of providing a well
rounded tool for research but in terms of cost effective traffic it's just
another tool to keep attracting those customers.

For those more interested in promoting their own/clients sites than
criticising others business models take a look at research provided by a
third party - http://www.payperclicksearchengines.com/alexa-results.shtml
