Snap response to the posting on Virgin and E-commerce:

50m is by any standards a great deal of money for UK Internet projects,
particularly when looking at incremental investments in current Virgin
businesses (airlines, holidays, music retail) rather than pure Internet
start-ups. Remember also that unlike Amazon, AOL and the other US entrants,
Virgin does not need to invest heavily in developing a brand.

Is 50m enough to "beat the Americans"? I think that it is certainly enough to
get Virgin into a stong online position in business where it currently
operates. With over 200 Virgin companies, there are quite a lot of markets in
which it could take a leading role ...

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Wait until the Megastores have
launched their service to see whether you think RB can do it. From what I have
seen of the service it will really give the likes of Amazon and CD Now / Music
Boulevard a run for their money. This is something that should be celebrated by
the IMRG!
