I was on the trial before I moved.


ADSL changes the way you use the internet. It gets rid of the 'better not

do that - it'll take a long time' feeling.  What you soon realise is that

when people do have higher bandwidth what they expect from the site

changes.  Ironically Flash appears to thrive in high bandwitdth settings

whilst information pages soon like news.bbc.co.uk suddenly come second to

the linked mulitmedia - and then it's irritating that real video is such

poor quality compared to streaming quicktime.


The trailist where paying 30 pounds and have recently been testing out

Mondex as well (smart card system for paying for services).


I was lucky enought to take part in a focus group (or unfocused by the time

I finished off the wine) and it was generally considered that home users

would pay about 30 pounds for ADSL - but few would pay much more. I fear BT

may strangle ADSL with it's droping of bandwidth (512 instead of 2mb) and

uping the price. As it stands 2mb is just not quite enough to watch, say,

the star wars trailer in real time.  Quarter screen MPEG 1 isnt that

impressive.


I feel ADSL could be used to make up the gap between Cable based

interactive TV and Terrestial/Satalite interactive TV - but that's a

different story.
