The mission is intended for companies interested in digital government and social innovation.

Sunday, 10th July, 2011

Travel to Washington, DC

Most of Sunday will be spent travelling. For companies on the mission, we will update you with flight times if you choose to fly with the group.

An informal gathering in central Washington for a quick drink and catch-up, before heading to bed, tackling the jetlag and getting ready for the week's activities.

Digital Mission Roadtrip to Annapolis

The Digital Mission takes a roadtrip to Annapolis for a briefing led by Maryland's first Chief Innovation Officer, Bryan Sivak, discovering how innovation is being brought into the heart of the government and how technology is enabling this.

DC Tech Meetup

The DC Tech Meetup is a well known digital gathering in Washington. It is a chance for the attending companies  to meet and geek out with the movers and shakers on the DC tech scene from politicos to techies to social innovators and more besides.

 A short welcome to the Digital Mission followed by introductions to our industry speakers and a welcome from our hosts, Deloitte.  

13:00 Transparency and Campaigning   

Leading agencies, Blue Sate DigitalEcho Ditto and Beekeeper Group (with others to be announced)  take the stage and explain the overlap between the digital sector, government and politics.

15:00 - 18:00 Gov 2.0   

A in depth session on Gov 2.0 with government agency representatives Rock Creek, Govloop and Phase one, discussing the changes in government over the last few years and how government engages through technology.

Briefings from The US State Department

You will need to bring your passports in order to gain access to the building. You will be  allowed to take in mobile phones, but have to leave behind the beloved iPads and laptops, this is a pen and paper job!

 Session one will be on the use of emerging technology for diplomacy by the International Information Programs Bureau’s Office of Innovative Engagement.

Session two will be on the professional exchange programs run by the Education and Cultural Affairs Bureau.

Meeting the Government 

Venue: World Bank (TBC) 1818 H Street, NW Washington, DC 20433 USA (map)

13:30 - 15:00 

 The mission will head to The World Bank (TBC) for a session on 'meeting the government’. They will hear from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, The Federal Communications Commission and the U.S. Department of Health and human Services. The event will focus on data, apps and citizen engagement.

Digital Mission Meets the White House 

Venue: TBC
Time: 15:45 - 17:30 

The group will head off to the second government session off the day where they will hear from White House Deputy CTO Chris Vein, The Department of Energy and General Services Administration’s Sheila Campbell on Innovation and technology in government.

Openair DC Summer Networking Event

The end of the mission is going to finish with the very first OpenAir DC event to celebrate international OpenGov and an adventurous summer in D.C. tech innovation by sharing engaging conversation and refreshing cocktails in the open air on Lost Society’s rooftop.
