Digital Mission China 2014 - Programme

This Digital Mission to Shenzhen Maker Faire (4-11 Apr 2014) brings together the UK’s leading ‘makers’ - creative technologists and entrepreneurs on a specially designed week-long trip centered around the Shenzhen Maker Faire.

The British delegation will bring together representatives of innovative hardware startups from the very earliest stage startups to established businesses.

Together with leading makers; Tom WhitwellChris Thorpe and working with the UK Trade & Investment and China-Britain Business Council teams in China we bring delegates a fully-packed programme. 

NB: this agenda is regularly updated - timings, dates and events may change - a work in progress but gives a good idea of what's being planned...

Here’s an outline of the activities planned for this trip. Alongside the Shenzhen Maker Faire 2014 a series of other visits, briefings and networking reception will be organised in China, to include:

Wednesday, 26th March

Pre-Mission Briefing in London

Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Venue: Kingston Smith W1, 141 Wardour Street, W1F 0UT. (Please head to the 3rd floor)

We will be hosting a Pre-Mission briefing a week before heading to China which will take place in London. A chance for companies to meet each other, practice their pitching and find out more about the trip. The briefing will include:

Briefing from Mission organisers
Lightning Pitch session (60 seconds per Company)
Mission Agenda run-through
Networking drinks

Please ensure you can attend this session. If you cannot make it, please send a representative from your company who can take your place. It is important someone can be there to get all the information for the trip and to pick up any materials.

Friday, 4th April

Travel to Shenzhen, via Hong Kong

We have partnered with Dovetail Foks/Expose Travel for the this Digital Mission to China. Dovetail can take care of any required aspects of your travel arrangements, from flights, transfers, hotel accommodation and visa advice.

Saturday, 5th April

Set up at the Maker Faire

Time: 5:00pm
Venue:  Nanhai Yiku (Nanhai E-Cool) No.6 Xinghua Road, Shekou, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, Guangdong, P.R. China

A chance for companies to view the stand, set up, meeting the organisers. There will be a gathering, material distribution and programme briefing

Sunday, 6th April - Monday, 7th April 

Premium Stand at the Shenzhen Maker Faire

Time: 09:00am
Venue:  Nanhai Yiku (Nanhai E-Cool) No.6 Xinghua Road, Shekou, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, Guangdong, P.R. China

Shenzhen Maker Faire 2014 (6-7 Apr 2014) is the first full Maker Faire to take place in China and only the second in Asia.

  • 2 days, 200 makers, 10 workshops, 20 influential keynotes
  • Creative Fair & Workshops: 3D printing, Robots, Wearables, Learning kits

Speakers including:

Delegates will be abe to showcase their company at the Premium British Stand at the Maker Faire, as well as having a priority area at the conference.

Tuesday, 8th April 

PCH International Visit

Time: 10:30am – 12:30pm
Venue: PCH International, Block D&E, 4/F, Du Shi Ming Yuan, Jintang Street, Cai Wu Wei, Luo Hu District, Shenzhen (深圳市罗湖区蔡屋围金塘街 都市名园D&E座4楼(万象城 后面)

Delegates will meeting at 9:15am at Shekou Hotel and travel to PCH.

  • Introduction of e-commerce platform ShopLocket
  • Introduction of Highway1 for incubators
  • Introduction of PCH Accelerator
  • Q&A session 

** Please be reminded visitors are not allowed to take pictures at PCH’s product during the visit.

Thursday, 10th April

Doing Business in Hong Kong Briefing 

Time: 09:30am - 11:30am
Venue: British Consulate-General, 1 Supreme Court Road, Admiralty, Hong Kong.

Key topics to be addressed are economic / political  / manufacturing overview, using Hong Kong as a gateway into China (both from the manufacturing and sourcing perspectives), doing business and starting up in Hong Kong.  

Joint mission briefing by UKTI Hong Kong. Speakers from:

  • Hong Kong Trade Development Council
  • Invest HK
  • Creative HK
  • Hong Kong Productivity Council
  • The Toys Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong
  • The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong and Federation of Hong Kong
