You're right, that's relatively rare. SWF is the preferred web distribution
format for vector-based artwork, and both FreeHand and Flash can create it.

The Shockwave for FreeHand plugin has a few features that Flash does not
(or at least, did not)... that's the main reason it was resurrected awhile
back.

Real Networks offers both server-based and non-server-based audio solutons.
