Re: FLASH: MIME not set negotiations with @home

I remember going through this with Flash 2 and earthlink - Flash 2 was

in beta and they waited months to add the MIME type : ( ... you just

have to have the ammunition.


I believe that the server in question is http://www.members.home.net, yes?


Netcraft says that that server

	"is running Netscape-Enterprise/3.6 on Solaris"


If this is in fact the server in question it might help to refer them to

this URL:

Which indicates that the format for this server (again, if this is the

right ont) is to add this line to the


.../config/mime.types file:


type=application/x-shockwave-flash exts=swf

type=application/futuresplash exts=spl


You really need to know who's IN CHARGE of the server. Make sure to ask

for the lead web administrator.


Again remind them that the failure to set the MIME type will cause:


* A broken puzzle piece icon will appear.


* The browser will crash


* A blank image will appear.


* A Flash icon will appear.


* Error message boxes will pop up.


* A pop-up box will appear prompting the viewer to save the file.


* A pop-up box will appear prompting the viewer to choose an

  application with which to play the file. 


I'll add that you can post your query to: secnews.netscape.com (secure) 

and their netscape.server.web discussion group and make fun of the @home

administrators in front of other server admins.


Peer pressure works on admins about as well as it does on teens.
