About a year ago, someone I know bought a Quantex. 10 months later, the
power supply fan was making this noise like it needed grease/oil or
something, but it wouldn't always do it. My friend called them up and
told them the problem. They said they couldn't do anything until they
heard the noise. Since it didn't always do it, he kept a recorder by
his computer until it did it. Then he called them up and played it to
them. They sent another power supply and had someone go to his house to
fix it. When the technician got there, he opened the box, and out fell
pieces from some components inside. You could see (I saw it; I was
there) where it came from. There was no logical way that could have
broken off. But anyway, they sent another power supply which until now
(2 months) has worked. They do have 3 years parts warranty, which isn't
bad. Oh yes, and the speakers he got were junk. They picked up radio
stations (really loud) and the sound quality sucked. They wouldn't
replace them because nothing was wrong with them, so they said, so he
just bought some new ones. The sound card wasn't too bad, though.
Anyway, personally I practically built my own computer. I got a cheap
one one summer, then I upgraded it when I had the money making sure to
read reviews, etc. on the hardware I bought. I have not had any trouble
whatsoever for about 3 years now (except when my old monitor was too
cheap for the video card I got and didn't work =)). I just keep
upgrading it whenever I need to (mostly the CPU). If you know how to
build one and have the time to look for the right hardware, you should
probably consider doing that, that way you know what you're getting.
Anyway, it's just my humble opinion. =)
