Subject: | FLASH: BROWSER WARS - What developers should do . . . |

Flash Compatability . . . couldn't we help each other create a function that
acceptably handles differences in site viewer technology.
What if we put our brilliant minds together and create a standard by which
we (us developers) knew all was being done to make our efforts available to
the widest audience. Cause it ain't gonna happen by MM and w3c don't get no
respect.
<example>
the coolest, most functional sniffer to check browser, plug-ins, connection
speed . . . etc. and direct appropriately - it's cool because all of us had
input in developing it.

It could check, using java script, if java is turned off (in the viewers
browser) and direct appropriately (me thinks this is possible)

<small_example2_in_big_scope_of_many_problems>
Since we know ~mac ie4.5~ is a problem for F4 - it would include appropriate
measures - at least to check - the developer could figure out what to do
with a ~mac ie4.5~ user
</small_example2_in_big_scope_of_many_problems>
I hear people say "oh the mac ie4.5 audience, or the people who turn off
java audience, or the blahblahblah audience, is too small to worry about."
. . .but that might be the user that becomes the best customer at a given
site.
Anyway, I'm willing to host such a depository. I have two different west
coast servers, and a east coast server. We could get a Euro Flasher to set
up one in Europe too. And down under and . . . all mirrors.
We could keep it updated with the problems, the solution(s) for each, and
have some updated code that we all pitched in on that would insure widest
audience coverage - based upon the compiled list of problems that we all
seem to discover on a daily basis.
The Internet been berry good to me . . . I have bought a new house, two new
cars, (all in the last six months), pay all my bills on time and am very
happy working in my studio above my garage! Long commute!! :) . . . (been
doing Internet work now for two years.)
Now, Flash is giving me even higher paying clients. I'm stoked!
I want to keep it that way. I know I need to take matters into my own
hands - at least as far as I can anyway.
We have seen the flames, we have bashed aol, ie, netscape, macs, pcs . . .
lemme' think, there must be more, oh . . . each other, and I am sure there
will be even more. I'm sure I have left out just as much . . . but you get
the point.
The only way the Internet is going to have any standards is to let someone
like bill g. take it over - and we know that is not going to happen -
although he tried. "And" we "don't" want that to happen - at least I don't
me - brain-dead - sunday - completing my first flash project so I can begin
the other 3 paying Flash projects that are on my plate :) - please excuse .
. . hope I was clear with my suggestion.
Anyone interested in consortium as such?
