I must agree with Tom here. It's like painting by numbers. If you give me
the paint and tell me where to put it I can make a pretty picture, but that
doesn't make me an artist. I still don't know why certain colors look good
together, I still won't understand all of the theory that is involved in
art. Ok, well maybe that is not the best analogy, but you get the picture.
Flash 4 Magic claims that it will walk you through projects from beginning
to end. Yeah, well I guess that is kind of true. They don't mention the fact
that they give you 100% of the artwork, 75% of the code, and most of the
instruction is telling you what objects to drag from the already existing
library onto the stage. Anybody, regardless of their Flash knowledge can
pick up this book and complete the projects, it's a no-brainer. I seriously
doubt that someone who knows nothing about ActionScript or programming in
general will take anything valuable away from this book.
Having said all of that, I feel it is a good reference for anyone who is
familiar with Flash 4 and ActionScript.
