It's tricky because actionscript is like no other programming
language (except maybe lingo, but I've never tried it). The
way it jumps from frame to frame to go from one instruction
to another is unique to it, and it would be difficult to
understand it in terms of another programming language
(it's a lot like the old goto statements, but in modern
programming 'goto' is all but dead and is generally considered
bad practice). Also, other programming languages are
designed to be very organized and keep similar things in
similar places, but unfortunately this kind of modularity isn't
very easy with actionscript. It's too bad that there isn't a
good actionscript reference for newbies, because the amount
of work that would go into learning another language isn't worth
it for the benefits of understanding actionscript alone. Of
course if you wanted to learn to program anyway, it definitely
wouldn't be a waste... You might even be surprised how much
your actionscript experience is useful in real programming.
