Hi Everyone. Interesting string about salaries, etc. Sometimes salaries may
not be as important as other considerations (like being able to have time to
enjoy surfing, etc). And if you are always at work, you won't have time to
spend your salary anyway. And if say you are paid $1000/wk but you work at
least 50/hours a week that is really $20/hr not $25/hr which you would make
if it was only 40 hours.

Some of the other things to consider in a job offer besides salary are things
like benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, pension plans, 401
Ks, stock options (this is what made Michael Eisner of Disney fame so
wealthy), bonuses, and other perks.

Sometimes you might be able to make more per hour as a freelancer but then
you have to pay your own Social Security (here in the US) and for health
insurance, etc. Of course you have the added perk of
self-employment--meaning you can take off and go surfing whenever you want.
But employment may not be as stable as at a growing strongly capitalized
company which offers full time staff jobs.

When considering a change in jobs, you need to figure out what is important
to you. Check out the company and the employer and make sure that it is what
you want. You spend too much time at work (and all too often off work
thinking about it) to not enjoy it there.
