Hello John,

That 's kind of a weird thing to say. It works beautifully. The
target shooters who have tested it say it works just like it does in
the field. All of the steps are set up very logically, although
within constrained limits.

Actually there are more invisible variables than that coded in. Plus,
the wind has one formula, the range another. Then, you have to throw
gravity into the soup.

I cannot understand the call scripting to save my life but obviously
need to learn how to use it since it sounds like it would be much
simpler.

That is a possibility. I will try it. Although that adds four more
buttons. The amount of clicking that needs to be done does need to be
solved. Although, the real scope adjustments are knobs with hash
marks which are rotated and the number of clicks are counted by the
adjuster (adjustor?)

I'm not sure what you mean by scope speed. The target takes awhile to
react because it takes the bullet that long to get there. This is
supposed to be realistic. 1000 yards is far away. I am planning on
adding a 'number of hits' field but to set it up more like an actual
shooting competition. A master shooter should be able to hit the
target in one shot if he [or she] understands what the numbers mean,
which was the initial reason it was made. There are many ways this
could go...heck it could even end up being a real game if only I had
another 400 hours of free time to devote to it.

You could

Ideally, yes this would be the way it should be set up. Now, I've
been asked to see if I can add a second cross wind. Say the wind is 5
mph at 3 o'clock halfway out, then changes to 10mph and 9 o'clock
further out. This is what really happens out at long ranges. Trying
to figure out how to program that makes steam come out of my eyeballs.

The separate formulas are very complex, in fact need to be calculated
with another ballistic program. The minutes-of-angle numbers were
supplied to me.

There are undoubtedly other ways of setting this up and I would
eventually like to make this a more complex true-to-life game. Since
I have never programmed anything until 3 weeks ago I needed to start
somewhere. On top of all of this I had to learn the minute of angle
concept and how it is used in long-range shooting. This started as a
way to help long range shooting enthusiasts understand this concept
which is often difficult to grasp. The game aspect to it is planned
after the user learns the basics....and when I learn more about
programming :-)
If you want, John, I can write an outline of the problem and send it
to you privately so the whole list doesn't get bored with this thing.
Perhaps then you can see why I did it the way I did.

Maybe this is something that several of us with combined knowledges
could create a cool thing and maybe even make enough money to pay the
rent yesterday :>/

Back to the drawing board or mouse or whatever,
Karin
