Ah, mTropolis. Quark purchased mTropolis (purchased mFactory) and then 

killed mT, so, although there a still copies of 2.0 for sale in some 

locations it is, for all practical purposes, gone. Not more obscure in 

it's workings, however, simply more powerful--and a much better metaphor 

for putting together dynamic multimedia, IMHO. However, living products 

are usually better bets than dead ones in most cases.


However, 2 years after being permanently killed, there are still people 

trying to get it back out into the market. The recently released QT kit 

lets you import whatever Flash content QT4 can handle into mTrop, and our 

company recently released a 3d mod for mTrop to allow creation of simple 

3d objects in mTrop (we sold 4 copies, so that should tell you something 

about the state of the mTropolis market right now <g>). 


I don't know that Flash "saved" Macromedia's buttocks (Director does very 

well, as does Freehand) but it certainly will make/has made Macromedia a 

dominant force on the Internet.
