You're right, there's not a set of discrete Flash 4 stats up there yet.
Each quarter an independent auditor measures how many consumers can
actually see specific content pages without downloading anything. The last
audit took place before Flash 4 had a significant audience, and then
there's some lag time while the testing results are brought together and
published.

In the meantime, between these quarterly updates, the numbers are updated
daily by the mean download rate. This can give an approximation of new
machines, but it will take a few quarters of comparison before there's a
good estimate of how many of the current Flash 4 downloads are updates, and
how many are actually new installations.

What I'm seeing often is that people just specify the Flash 4 Player... if
a site needs the features, then it's very easy to get. You can always set
up a SWF4 file with MP3-style compression and say "If you can't hear the
music, click here" to weed out the non-F4 machines.

I know the above info is sort of chunked-together, but does any of it
provide a possible useful context there...?
