John kinda missed the point here. If the man remembered to save and save
often, he wouldn't need a lazysave...errr....autosave feature. (;
Anyway, Chris, et al, on the Mac you can get a third-party System-wide
autosave utility, which allows you to select the applications you do and
don't want it to work in, and how often to save, etc.
Further, if you employ multiple volumes (or more complicated/less safe if
on a single), or a network (slows work, unless on FastEther) you can use
a simple, OS8.x-built-in AppleScript-FolderSynch-FileSynch routine that
will automate JD's routine, specific to the clock as you like it.
Finally, for those of you who'd like a PhotoShop-esque history with
Flash, a slightly more advanced use of AppleScript combined with the
above can provide you with a successive "history" (a new file with new
changes every X minutes) throughout the day, though, depending on your
project size, might consume a tremendous amount of disk space and
processor overhead (but it will act in background at minimum overhead).
Use of the combined three elements listed above is how we manage to
*safely* and seamlessly use RAM Disks to drastically accelerate our work
in PhotoShop, Flash, Freehand, Illustrator, CAD, [3D Whatever], and all
other disk-intensive applications. Once you have the routine setup
(10min-1hr, depending on your AS proficiency), it's just a matter of
assigning the files to it (10 seconds when you create a new project), and
you don't even have to think about it anymore. Just enjoy multiple
backups of your files, whether you're crashing and losing work (you
shouldn't be, but it does happen in very rare instances), or you'd like
to revert/refer to an early version for whatever reason.
