There are two downsides to ActiveX.


1. It's MSIE4+ only. I do not use IE and will not use IE. A significant

minority of individuals feels the same way.


2. It almost surely will not work on Mac, whether or not the Mac users

have MSIE4+ installed.


So unfortunately it looks like what you'd done originally is about the

only way to get consistent results across the widest range of platforms.
