Don't forget the TCO. The cost of a server is not only
hardware+software. There is maintenance costs, administration, training,
security...
Here in Brazil is "Linux Time". Everybody wants it, but nobody knows
why. People ask if it runs under Windows, if it runs MS Office, and many
don't know jack about command line, thousands of Windows-generations
teens discovering some really nasty things about "good old times
Operational Systems".
The corporate marketing is trying to migrate to Linux, too (CIO's read a
lot of magazines, you know..) but the COST is too high. A Linux/Unix
professional costs twice a standard NT admin.
Linux has lots of followers, but not so many can work in a professional
corporate environment. A friend called, some days ago, in a "big
trouble. He was installing Oracle, and it required "something called
K.shell. what's that?" :):):):):)
How's the average Linux/Unix professional status in other countries?
Are they making lots of money too, or it's already a requirement, not a
plus?
