It seems you have found the answer to your first question!

There are plenty of useful tutorials available online - follow the links
from any of John Croteau's postings to this list. I have also found useful
the tutorials at: http://users.bigpond.com/xtian/
http://www.macromedia.com also has lots of info, resources and a manual you
can download.

Also, if you look in the Help menu in Flash, there is an item named
"Lessons". When you have completed Lesson 7 - Tweened Animation - you should
have a fair idea...

I don't think anyone will tell you that Flash 4 is quick to learn or that
it's easy to master ALL the features and ultimately it requires many hours
of concentrated mental effort and trial and error.

Follow this list, do your homework, study the work of others, experiment -
above all, ENJOY this wonderful tool we have.
