I don't know for sure, but this sounds like a problem that I had once
while trying to use variables and expressions. Everything began to
work as expected when I realized that I was refering to my value as a
string literal and not an expression. In the Instance Properties
window, make sure that the button to the right of the Value/Variable
input boxes are set to expression and not string literal (an =
instead of "abc") where need be.
