Since you say you are creating loops, I would highly recommend Sonic
Foundry's Acid.

A phenomenal tool! and no I don't work for them or own stock.

If you need more than loop creation look at the same company's product
called Vegas. The main reason I would recommend these over something like
sound forge is that they are multi-track editors (layers as many sounds as
you want). I have been really impressed with SF's product robustness. They
create solid software.

I have never used cooledit, fwiw
