Hi Karin,
It sounds like the Art Director isn't really sure what's required.
Having worked in magazine publishing for many years I found AD's are not
really up on knowing things about file formats and the like. They prefer
to look at colour swatches and ponder over typefaces.
Can you speak to the Production Editor or perhaps the Repro company?
They usually have a better idea.
If you're simply reproducing some Flash artwork and nothing else will
happen to it ie. no cunning PS work then
- export it as an Illustrator file.
This will save you much time, effort and disk space, plus if they really
need to have the image pixel based they can easily rasterize the Illy
file at their end to whatever resolution is required.
Seriously, I can think of no reason why an Illustrator export will not
be the best solution to the situation.
I would strongly recommend against screen captures.
300 DPI is not a 'Red Herring'. It is the required resolution to
reproduce pixel based images in print
You do not increase the resolution in 'pixel land' under any
circumstances if you can possibly avoid it. It will degrade the image.
Export as an Illustrator file, send it to them and take it from there.
Because Illustrator is vector based the output is fast, crisp, of
extremely high quality and the file is simple to edit and adjust.
Cheers
Yan
