Subject: FLASH: Re: Saving to a txt file? (thanks JD so far)

All that I am trying to do is make a certain portion of a site easily
updated. I thought by filling in a text field that sends the information to
a txt file from which Flash is retrieving through the URL-encoded name=value
string, I would achieve this. At the end of the day it does not have to be
Flash, although it would of course be desirable, if at all possible. Can
anybody assist me further (JD?)

thanks again

Iain

I think I saw a similar message the other day, but wasn't sure of its
meaning...?

The Macromedia Flash Player, and the standalone Projector, do not have the
ability to read or write text files to the local drive. (The Shockwave
Player can read and write cookie-like prefs files, and standalone Director
Projectors have full FileIO abilities... this is part of the reason for
their larger size.)

The Macromedia Flash Player 4 can retrieve an URL-encoded name=value string
from a server via loadVariables, and can also POST data to server. The
Macromedia Flash Player 5 can do this and can also parse XML-formatted
data, which offers much more flexibility.

Do any of these do something close to what you're wishing to do...?
