You can acheive this in a few ways involving Movie Clips using one motion path.

Just make the object traveling along the path a movie clip who's contents
are all the different symbols you want to follow the same path - ie if you
wanted a cat, dog, and a marmaset to follow the same path, put your cat in
the first frame of the movie clip, the dog in the second, your marmaset in
the third.

Whenever your animal enters the main timeline, have an action telling the
movie clip to goto and stop at the appropriate frame.

An example of this would be "Uh, coming soon..." at
<http://www.gourmandizer.com/stuff/> where I have nine navigation buttons
use the same motion guide.

You can also save yourself a ton of tweening information by using the same
technique ... the link to the Heart site on the same page uses the same
tweening information for 81 symbols (letters of the alphabet, plus all the
graphics in the movie that kinda pop in at you ... the effect being 240
less key frames and something like 1,280 less frames with tweening
information.
