Hi all,

> 88%?
88 to 90 percent is probably the right range of people browsing the Web
that have Flash 3 or 4.
The total percentage of people who have the plugin/activex would be
smaller because many people do not browse on the Web and therefore would
not have upgraded their plugin/ActiveX control which may have come with
Flash 2 or not have Flash installed automatically.

> Not according to StatMarket - they say its more like 66%.
Stat Market only test for plugins (not activeX controls) thus the large
majority of their visitors (Internet Explorer on Windows) are untested
for Flash.
The incorrect methodology that StatMarket used to use to report stats on
plugins was changed by the efforts of a few members on this List.

The remaining reason why StatMarket and most of the others that provide
stats publicly is the clientel of these companies. In general though
these companies draw clients from a wide spectrum, typically most of
their hits are from a small number of clients (generally Xrated sites)
and not from a statistically random sample of their clients or the Web.

As for Ecommerce sites that require Flash 4, for a while longer they
must rely upon the willingness of their potential clients to upgrade to
Flash 4. There are no good numbers on Flash 4 penitration (at least made
publicly that I know of), but i expect it is somewhere near 40-50
percent and will still be few months before it becomes dominant.
