There could be a couple of layers of extensibility under discussion here:


--  You can add SmartClips and library items to your movies... see the

Macromedia Exchange for Flash for some early examples


--  The tiny Macromedia Flash Player does not have an extensibility layer

like the larger Shockwave Player does... that's how Shockwave can add

drop-in renderers for video, 3D and other content.

    The Macromedia Flash Player is instead optimized for small filesize,

fast startup and easy portability.


--  The source code to the Macromedia Flash Player is available at

zero-cost licensing to qualified partners, but this is usually for

embedding the standardized player inside new devices, rather than creating

variant players.


What is the design task you wish to accomplish? It may be easier to just do

it in Shockwave.
