It may work fine sometimes, but such a site may crash browsers too. That's
because if the server is sending mystery data the browser has to guess how
to render it, and it may guess wrong.

Flash Technotes with keyword "mime".)
If your site host won't add this very common filetype, and if you prefer
not to switch to a more normal site host, then you can add a TYPE attribute
to your EMBED tag, with value of "application/x-shockwave-flash"... I don't
know whether this is a documented or recommended technique by Netscape for
their browsers, but it often seems to work.
