Subject: SOLVED - Re: FLASH: How do I read the value of a variable?

Muzak, that didn't work. Instead what I had to do to read the results was
use a substr. It was counting from the "f" in <font face and therefore,
when I said txtXxxxxxxxxStatus == NORMAL..... It had to many letters in the
result, therefore; I just got a blank result.

My text file:
txtXxxxxxxxxStatus=<font face="ARIAL" color="#FFFFFF">NORMAL</font>

Now all I have to do is go to my text file, change NORMAL to what the
current status is, and it updates my flash file in an instant! No random
codes at all. I have dynamic text, and depending on the value of
txtXxxxxxxxxStatus, determines where the playhead goes next. Actually, my
client updates the status word via an ASP page. They select the radio
button for the current status, then that writes to the text file and Flash
refreshes instantly with the new results. The client didn't have to touch
flash
or the text file, and they don't end up messing up anything. :-)

Now we have an alert system that sounds an alarm if it's a warning status,
or just stays green if it's normal. Each frame is set up with the exact
same code, so if the alert status changes, the playhead goes to the proper
frame, sounds the alarm, shows the status and continually loops on that
frame until the status changes. It just cycles the code until it sees a
change.
