Tracing can be either manual or automated. It is used to convert bitmaps
to vector images.
In Flash Modify > Trace Bitmap.
Freehand and other vector graphics programs have this feature as well.
Adobe Streamline is a program especially created for this function.
Hand tracing often is faster and does better than the automated ones
where you have to learn how to use the settings and then have to
optimize afterwards anyway. Hand tracing is accomplished by putting the
original (bitmap or vector) on one layer and redrawing the object on
another layer using the original as a temporary template. Note not all
images should be concerted to vectors.
