You're probably not doing anything wrong; I think that

tutorial is missing information. I did that one too

and couldn't get it to work. Then I went to

www.flashlite.net and checked out the Generator links

there (thanks Chrissy!). You can find better and more

comprehensive info and tutorials there and at 3 other

sites which are all listed.


Macromedia's documentation and help for Generator is

really quite poor, and in many cases non-existent. One

other thing we've found out at my company: online

Generator doesn't work until you purchase the full

version. Our poor IT guy struggled through the trial

period trying to evaluate a program that wasn't doing

what it was supposed to. Macromedia help was not

helpful and finally we bought the full version and it

miraculously worked. Go figure.

Subject: FLASH: generator ticker problem continues


Hi flashers, 


I posted this question once before -- but I got no

response -- probably b/c it is a Generator question. I

am hoping that someone can help me out.  Macromedia no

longer gives a free 90 day support with Generator, so

I am out of luck with that.   Anyway, here is the

deal: I did the tutorial that appears on the

Macromedia site on how to do a ticker using Generator.

I cannot get it to work even after doing the tutorial

3 times and tearing about the .fla!!  I feel like a

moron.  I have the generator extensions installed in

my Flash 4, but I am not running the server on my

machine.  But, it is my understanding that you can

still see the results when you do a "test movie".  My

movie just shows up blank. I cannot even get a simple

variable to show up.  I have linked the ticker to the

data source which is a text file.  I have posted my

.fla, .swt file and my data source here if you want to

I have no idea what i am doing wrong.  Thanks in
