The Mac IE and Win 3.1 browsers do not include any Script communication
capabilities.
Either Live Connect or ActiveX is required to allow communication
between Flash and JavaScript.

One possible alternative is to use Movie Clip logic and not JavaScript.
Many Flash animations using scripting can be recreated using nested MCs.
