This is already built into Flash for Windows. It is called OLE embeding
(Edit > Insert Object). Flash will not export an OLE element in the swf
file but when you are done the OLE link can be broken by Breaking apart
that OLE object.

So for a few authors this could be very advantageous at times.
I know I said previously I saw no real use for OLE in Flash since you
couldn't export the object. But now I know that you can break that OLE
object link apart there can definately be uses for it since the OLE link
can be turned into usable objects in flash with Break Apart. It is even
in the book. I would however suggest that it only be used when you are
likely to have to make repeated changes to the imported object from the
linked program to get the exact image you want.
