Hi Eric,
We do this kind of work as a specialty at webstaffing.net
It is rather labor intensive. Most graphics need to be redrawn, because
when taken directly into Flash from PowerPoint, they have far too many
elements. (HUGE!) For example, copy a PP grad fill into Flash, and see
what you get. On another frame, redraw it with native flash tools. Then
check the report on the swf. The graphics from PP are rather *fat* to say
the least, and not appropriate for the web.
On the good side Flash makes a fantastic tool for creating web
presentations. The best there is. The streaming eliminates the wait. By
the time the audience has looked at a few slides, most of the presentation
is loaded, so thereafter, moving to the next slide is *instant*.
Of course, if this *isn't* for the web, then filesize won't matter as much.
You'll have to play the midis through a hidden frame. If your client used
the PP built-in proprietary wavs in the presentation, you've got trouble.
Let your client know that this job is going to take a while. It won't be
Dirt Cheap. ;)
If you find any shortcuts, let me know. I haven't found any. :(
The lesson for the client is this: In the future, if they're going to be
creating presentations for viewing on the web, they should have you do them
in Flash from the start, instead of doing them in powerpoint and then
converting them to Flash. It's far less costly that way.
