in file terms symbols are the most efficient method. Where you have a string
of similar text messages you can probably create one symbol then drag it
onto the stage, break it apart and modify it (i.e. delete characters/add new
ones) - although this seems to corrupt the typeface somewhat. In my
understanding (still pretty limited i have to emphasise) the number of
symbols isn't really a big problem, and text symbols generated in Flash will
be pretty small (bytesize!) : the key is streaming events along the timeline
so the browser doesn't have to cope with a massive chunk right at the
beginning.
