Tried the 62k or so test file on Mac NS 4.7 and it played fine all the
way through.
Because I'm trying to avoid doing something else today <g>, I took a
look at that dixie.mid file; lo and behold, there's a lot of low-value
mod wheel and a whole lot of key release velocity events that could be
tripping up this platform's Flash/QT mix.
Mod wheel is typically what a keyboard's aftertouch sensitivity is
mapped to. The release velocity should be tossed, too, as I doubt that
many plug-ins or consumer level cards support this (for that matter, a
lot of pro music equipment doesn't support release velocity).
Make sure you don't inadvertently zap the regular key velocity - these
events *are* commonly supported and make a big difference in the
expressiveness of a piece.
So, in summary, I don't think your dixie.mid file is corrupted - plays
just fine in Mac NS 4.7 when hit by itself - but my bet is that
filtering out both these platform-extraneous event types will take care
of your problem without changing the musical performance in any
noticeable way. As an added bonus, stripping these out will take your
file size down a bit.
