3D Max is a very high-end 3D graphics suite, it assumes that you know the
basics of 3D modeling.

I don't know the exact pricing, but I can tell you that it is not cheap.
There is a plugin called Illustrate! 4.1 which is available at
http://www.davidgould.com that can export files to .swf format making it
easy to get into Flash.

There is a very steep learning curve for 3D Max. The program comes with good
documentation, including tutorials and there are a lot of sites out there
that have tips and tricks to learning Max. There are also books available
that will help you learn.
