FLASH: flash projectors- stand alones

let me verify this- if create a projector do i need the 

flash player to play it or is it a stand alone? it seems to

me that a *.exe is a stand alone but someone i work with is

arguing that it is not and i woke feeling unsure of myself

today...;-)
