Firstly you need to consider how you want to display the media.

1 - You could convert the AVI to QT and simply play it in a browser or make
it downloadable. Unfortunately it is not possible to embed a QT into F4 and
have playback via a swf. file. The intention of the QT import is for people
that want to export another QT file.

2 - Another option is to export all of the avi frames and import them as a
sequential frameset into a timeline. You would then need to compress all the
frames using F4 jpg compression to keep your file size small. You can then
allow the whole file to stream instead of preloading. keep in mind that your
movie dimensions will need to be pretty small.

3 - Once again you could export all the frames and use a vectorizing
programe like Adobe Streamline (of which I think is pretty crap) and import
all the frames as vectors. You will need to be very careful to make sure
that each frame doesn't contain thousands of vectors. Try converting to 4 or
5 colours and try and keep the avi content resonably basic.

4 - If it is not necc to use flash I would highly recomend using MPeg 4 and
the asf format. You could have flash pop up a window with an asf embedded in
it - or - if you know your shit then you can embed an asf and place a swf
(transparent) directly over the top of it.

As for the conversion tool - use premier.

I hope this helps

Subject: FLASH: video size for flash?

Hey everyone....

Can anyone recommend some tools for taking video down to a decent size for a
flash movie?

I have a DV Camera, and when it is brought onto my PC (AVI format), it is
perfect quality, but obviously huge in size.....

Looking for a tool that can convert to it to a quicktime movie.....and also
make the video web ready.....

Sorry for the somewhat OT topic, but since flash is a multimedia
experience... I figured this would be one of the best places to ask....

Thanks.
