Hi Tom, valid concerns you are listing here. I am glad the community has
really taken the new Actions added in Flash 4 (aka ActionScript) to levels
we had not initially indented for version 4.
People are using ActionScript for everything now and we want to fully
support higher application levels of development in the future. However, we
want to do this without alienating the introductory users.
First, we are going to dramatically improve our examples on ActionScript for
both designers and developers in the future. Can't elaborate too much but
its a top priority for the team. We also plan to release interim tutorials
and white papers for registered users on the Macromedia Flash Support Center
to accommodate high volume requests like ActionScript.
Second, the community is really pushing the development envelop and has been
self-supporting itself. I can't keep track of the number of excellent 3rd
party resource sites the community has been publishing. We want to continue
to support this involvement while also providing our own center for this
much needed information.
Third, coming from the Director team, I know it took years to develop
materials relating to Lingo. The Lingo Dictionary was a holy grail for most
developers and the thought of having example movies, like the wonderful
"Apartment" example, were dreams that took a long time to develop. However,
we are in internet time and can't afford years of development. Over time we
will continue to place white papers, examples, support third party book
authors, support third party sites to provide the necessary documents and
examples developers such as yourself are requesting. We also plan on
building great resources into the product to support everyone more.
As you work with others in the community Tom, I would love to stay involved
so we know more specifically what areas you need additional support for.
best,
Eric J. Wittman
