Hi Eric,
Its intriguing that only half the people who download the flash plug-in
actually get it to work. I've had problems with the installer on several
occasions and on several machines, so I'm not surprised. If Macromedia wants
to improve its numbers and user experience please consider:
1. Have only only one plug-in. Most people do not know the difference
between Shockwave and flash.
2. If you offer auto-updating it should be an option. Auto-updates were the
source of most of my Shockwave install troubles.
3. Do not annoy anyone by throwing an alias on the desktop or mess with
someone's computer setup (for example, the Shockwave in the Apple items
menu).
4. People are going to your site to get a plug-in, and then return to their
business. It is a disservice to force Shockwave.com (being a cool site or a
cool technology is no excuse) or any extra forms to fill out.
5. You've made it clear that their are a lot of circumstances to test for,
but that is not an excuse for not catching something. More time for testing.
