The only way I've done that so far is to either embed the button in a movie
clip with two frames.. the first being a realy button, and the second set as
a graphic. then when you need to, such as onload you can als issue a tell
target turning "off" the button. The only other way I know is to make
whater is over the button also be a button (which can have no actions) but
it will make the cursor into a hand.
hope this helps
Justin

Subject: FLASH: Trapping clicks...
In Flash 4, is there a command similar to Director's dontPassEvent?
Rephrased, is there a way to trap mouse clicks so that a button in one
level won't be triggered by a click on it when a higher level covers the
stage?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
